Sandown preview
πThe Bet365 Gold Cup I believe, despite running just 14 days ago in the Grand National, is the race of Kitty’s Light for Christian Williams. Kitty’s Light thrives when running in marathon trips and is the only horse in the race to have been successful over a distance of 3 mile 4 when winning this race last year. Kitty’s Light won the Scottish National last year over 4 miles before having similarly quick turn around, winning this race last year just 7 days later. He will enjoy and stay the trip and is versatile ground wise but will particularly relish the better going at Sandown. Kinondo Kwetu is another eye catcher who bounced back well from a 7 month break to finish fourth last time out in the William Hill Handicap Chase at Aintree. He finished third, just 3 lengths behind Twig who has since come second in the Ultima at Cheltenham, in the Bet365 Summer Cup Handicap Chase. Last season he was also a winner of a Class 2 at Aintree and third in the William Hill Chase. He is a horse with endless potential and will absolutely love the good going at Sandown. I believe he will stay the trip and this extremely consistent contender should be in the frame.
πNext is the Bet365 Josh Gifford Novices Handicap Chase and one possibly overlooked in the market is Sam England’s extremely consistent Glory And Honour for the successful syndicate that is URSA Major Racing. Glory And Honour is a consistent gelding who has never been out of the frame for his current yard since joining Sam England in August 2023. He won a small event at Cartmel before placing second in his next four races and then he put in a career best effort when landing the competitive Bet365 Novices Limited Handicap Chase at Doncaster. Behind him in second this day was recent William Hill Chase winner Cruz Control and in fourth was Reynoldstown Novices Chase winner Henry’s Friend. He then went to Musselburgh where he finished second, 12 lengths ahead of 2024 Cheltenham Pertemps winner Monmiral. Glory And Honour was last seen coming a distant third at Haydock, but this was in hugely unfavourable conditions which he just didn’t manage to handle and he is back on better ground conditions today which he will continue to thrive on.
